His efforts led to Anne’s diary being published in Dutch as Het Achterhuis in 1947. In 1950 it was translated into French and German and in 1952 came the first English edition entitled The Diary of a Young Girl. In September 1944 Anne and her sister Margot were taken to Auschwitz-Birkenau and then a few weeks later they were relocated to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. Bergen-Belsen was liberated by British forces in April 1945. After 2 years the family was somehow betrayed and the secret annex was discovered by the Germans.

Anne Frank Museum (History & Visitor Numbers)

For further insight, book an Anne Frank walking tour here which lasts 2 hours and explores Amsterdam’s Jewish quarter. It was here where Anne wrote her diary giving a unique and touching perspective of wartime Amsterdam through the eyes of a teenage girl. During the Second World War, Anne Frank spent over two years hiding in a secret annex at Prinsengracht 263, Amsterdam. A visit to the place where she wrote her diary is an unforgettable experience.

The Anne Frank House online

Each visitor undertakes an audio tour which provides historical and chronological context as one moves through the rooms. The Anne Frank House originally opened on 3 May 1960 and over the years attracted a growing number of visitors keen to experience the diary location at first-hand. The rooms are empty except for documents and the belongings of the eight people who hid there. The front part of the house tells the story of Anne Frank based on quotations from her diary, historical documents, photographs, audiovisual footage and original objects. Anne Frank’s original diaries and writings are displayed in another room. People from all over the world come to Prinsengracht to visit the building where Anne Frank and her family spent two years in hiding during the Second World War.

The Van Pels family and Fritz Pfeffer also had their hiding place here.

You will see Anne Frank’s room with photos of movie stars and royalty glued on the wall. You will also see height marks of Anne and Margot drawn on the bedroom wall. After going through rooms in the Main House you reach the Secret Annex. It is accessible via a concealed entrance through the original hinged bookcase. A visit to the Anne Frank House can be poignant, thought-provoking and for some an emotional experience.

A unique part of this museum is the secret annex where Anne wrote her world-famous diary. In order to protect the original items in the museum and to avoid causing nuisance to other visitors, photography is not allowed in the museum. The entrance to the Secret Annex was hidden behind a revolving cupboard that was specially made for this purpose. The office staff helped the people in hiding with food and brought 'news from outside'. On August 4, 1944, the hiding place was betrayed and the people in hiding were deported to various concentration camps.

Through this informative and interactive talk, you will be well prepared for your visit. The program is in English and costs € 7.00 extra. Please note that this program is not suitable for visitors under 10 years old, however this is at visitors own discretion. Every Tuesday at 10am CET all tickets become available for a visit six weeks later. You can opt for a museum visit or a museum visit with an introductory program.

Automotive Design: Jobs & Career Guide RTF

automotive design

You might get singled out to argue for your design; once I suggested repositioning a replacement vehicle as a different kind of car altogether. You rarely see these development sketches, because manufacturers want to keep ideas in their back pocket possible use in the future. The automotive design process seeks to combine vehicle aesthetics and functionality. However, it is often not an easy process, as seen by the time it takes from ideation to finished car.

Engineering the design studio of the future

Show cars anticipate future trends and are not limited by today's constraints, technical, legal or otherwise. In that sense, they are to be seen more as a preview of what is to come than part of the actual styling process during vehicle development. Rhino is a free-form modeling tool that supports a variety of techniques, including NURBs (non-uniform rational basis spline). This is an extremely precise technique that allows you to model using mathematical representations, so it’s well suited to working on complex shapes like car designs. This is because its smart, intuitive design makes it more accessible than other programs, but it still offers all the tools you need to make high-quality car designs.

Car Design Review 9: Jeff Nield, General Motors

Not only can you model any product using CATIA, regardless of how complex, but you can also simulate each step in the production process, from design and engineering to construction, in real-life conditions. This is one of the main factors that makes CATIA such a useful automotive design software for leading companies like Tesla. This computer car design software also allows you to design in virtual reality using curve, surface, and subdivision modeling tools, so it’s a very flexible and powerful tool.

ECD Automotive Design Flexes Manufacturing Muscle: Hits the Road to Bring Design Experience and Bespoke ....

You're considering a career in automotive design. What should you know before taking the leap?

During the mid- and late-20th century one of the most influential coach builders/designers in Germany was Karmann. On Tuesday, the company said it had updated its future vehicle lineup “to accelerate the launch of new models ahead of our previously communicated start of production in the second half of 2025”. Rivian wants to shake up the industry with its next-generation R2 electric vehicle.

White House Correspondents Dinner: The Red Carpet Arrivals

If the subject in question is a replacement model, the process kicks off about a year after the previous model was launched. This gives companies plenty of time to overanalyze why buyers bought or didn’t buy the vehicle. I’ve seen all kinds of feedback from customers, one of whom was upset because the car didn’t prominently enough show the manufacturer’s name —presumably a life or death issue when you’re keeping up with HOA standards. A good designer stores all this data on their mental hard drive, left in the background for future use. Manufacturers such as HONDA, Altran, M&M, Tata Technologies, BMW, Maruti, and several others are very likely to localize their centres, creating countless opportunities for automotive designers. A person having experience of more than 10 years can easily acquire a salary package ranging between INR 16 to 20 LPA.

It also has several features designed to improve the efficiency of the car design process. Autodesk’s Alias is an industrial design software for sketching, 3D modeling, rendering, visualization, and animation. It’s geared very much toward car design and is one of the most widely used automotive CAD programs and vehicle rendering software. This offers more basic car design tools but has an unlimited free version and doesn’t require a download, making it the top free car design software online. Once a wall of renders is up, a design manager or, depending on the size of the studio, senior design manager reviews them. This person identifies renderings with potential, picks out favorites, and if nothing knocks their socks off they request another round of work.

Choose Autoprotoway for Prototyping and Part Production of Your Car Design

A clear vision of the vehicle must exist before the styling can be created. In the early stages of a vehicle project, the vehicle’s look and feel are closely aligned to its creator’s original vision. Catia, Solidworks, Fusion 360, Autodesk Alias, and Blender are all popular car body design software.

If the concept of user experience takes precedence in car design, the industry could take a big leap towards customization and accessibility, which in turn would give end users increased choice. So does the saying “the more it changes, the more it stays the same” apply to electrification? Nowadays, designers working on EVs have a license to take on a braver approach. You could say that the counters have been reset to zero, away from sequel-like or iterative approaches. Maybe nobody knows what’s beyond zero – the only thing we know is that there’s a possibility to fully liberate our creative freedom as designers.

Rhino 3D is one of the few car design automotive software that offers a native mac app, and has a wide range of powerful modeling tools that make it suitable for modeling cars. Another great thing about Illustrator is that, unlike many other car modeling software, it has apps for iOS and Android. This allows you to design anywhere, anytime through the device of your choice, and the iPad app supports Apple stylus’, allowing you to get extra creative with freehand car designing. Necessary skills such as 2D and 3D drawing, research, model making, computer-aided drafting, and technical knowledge of vehicles can be inculcated with a bachelor’s degree.

Auto manufacturers get thousands of car designs yearly from numerous designers, but about one or two get produced. These rules consider every aspect of a vehicle, from safety, comfort, interior and exterior fittings, door handles, and lights to horns. For instance, some rules guiding external projections from a car’s body include; Rims and headlamp visors not projecting more than 30mm beyond the lens surface.

Fusion 360 is one of the best automotive design tools, and it’s suitable for students (for free), hobbyists (free with limitations), and professionals. In the following the next couple of years, a lot more work will to transform this design into an actual production design. Next time in our series, we’ll look at the various roles in the studio that make the design into a functioning, buildable, road-legal vehicle. A final design is born after several months of tickling, taping, swearing, standing around, pointing, scraping clay, and wheeling models into the sunshine or pouring rain.

In this article, we’d examine the automotive design process, how to design a car, and tips to improve your design quality. During those days, the automotive manufacturing process was fragmented into two separate aspects. It was common for luxury car makers to develop the frame, engine, suspension, and all functional or technical aspects.

When it comes to East Coast weather, the region follows fairly typical seasons, so you’ll know what to pack at least. The country as a whole tends to cool down in autumn, but over on the east is where things really flourish. Expect incredible foliage and shades of yellow, orange and red as falling leaves change their colour. Of course, there’s The Strip, the city’s 4.2-mile road that’s all bright lights and incredible sights. No trip here would be complete without heading to Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas’ crown jewel casino packed with high-rollers and show stealers. We mean it, here’s your chance to catch everyone from Celine Dion and the Cirque Du Soleil to the Blue Man Group and Penn & Teller.

Temperatures in the winter stay on the mild side, though it can get very cool at night, so be sure to bring some layers with you. The coast is also at its wettest between December and February, so if you’re looking to get away from the rain, you’re better off waiting for spring if you ask us. Get the travel inspo on the go with this handy US cruise port map. The place might be a port for the Caribbean and the Bahamas, but it has plenty going for it in its own right – even if you took away the beaches. It may seem glitzy and tacky to some, but if that’s your kind of thing, you’ll find plenty about Sin City that’s down your street.

Shore excursions—chilling on powdery white sand beaches, snorkeling turquoise waters teeming with colorful coral and tropical fish, and sipping champagne on catamaran sunset sails—are mesmerizing. Could close-to-home U.S. cruises satisfy that out-to-sea itch? The memories of the challenges European cruisers faced last year surely contribute to U.S. cruises’ popularity boost.

In 2023 American Cruise Lines announced the longest-ever domestic cruise itinerary. The company’s new 60-day adventure, called The Great United States, explores 20 states, and spans all four time zones in the continental U.S. As the country approaches its semiquincentennial, the 250th anniversary of its independence, the new cruise honors America’s living history, and enduring legacies from sea to shining sea. Guests will begin at the Pacific Coast and travel east to the Atlantic, cruising 4 major rivers and America’s most picturesque coastlines. The Great United States experience culminates in New York Harbor with a viewing of the Statue of Liberty from the ship on the last day of the cruise.

A river cruise of this magnitude has never been done before in the U.S., and only American Cruise Lines is capable of delivering it successfully,” said Charles B. Robertson, President & CEO of American Cruise Lines. Royal Princess' sailing along the California coast is one of the best U.S. cruises. Indulge in a relaxing journey across the warm Pacific from Vancouver to the lush, volcanic islands of Hawaii, where waterfalls tumble from verdant peaks and the ocean is home to abundant whales and dolphins. Visit Rainbow Falls and Akaka Falls from Hilo, and admire the fiery antics of Mount Kilauea. Learn about history in Honolulu, the location of the only royal palace in the USA, and Pearl Harbor. Join a firelight luau in Lahaina, and visit a working pineapple plantation.

Offers are capacity controlled and may be modified or withdrawn at any time. Cruise itineraries are subject to change, and will be confirmed by your booking agent at the time of booking. American Cruises offer more than just picturesque landscapes. They provide access to some of the country’s most iconic cities and cultural hubs.

As laid-back as it gets, San Francisco’s place in 60s, 70s and 90s culture creates a relaxed, come-as-you-are way of life that’s irresistible to tourists and locals alike. From the Summer of Love to the dot com boom, doing things differently has always been SF’s mantra, and the same applies to your hol out here too. And once you’ve taken in LA’s big sights, make like the locals and hit the nearest beach for a dose of surfing, skating or, saving the best ’til last, simply relaxing in the Californian sunshine. The Home of Hollywood, the City of Angels is like something straight out of a movie. Star-studded and endlessly sunny, LA is blessed with good vibes, golden beaches and arty creativity around every corner. The city is also home to an unusual and varied collection of museums, including the Museum of Pop Culture and the popular Museum of Flight, two ace places where you can get to know Seattle’s storied cultural clout for yourself.

What Cruises Dont Require A Passport? 2023

cruise without passport

Cruising is a great way to explore a new destination without having to go through the hassle of flying. You can enjoy the scenery and culture while on your cruise without worrying about passport requirements. While the world is your oyster with a passport, you aren’t stuck at home if you don’t have one, and these amazing cruises prove it. From the glittering seas and sandy shores of the Caribbean to the diverse destinations of the Pacific and one-of-a-kind cruises in the Atlantic, a pretty big part of the world awaits discovery. The East Coast isn’t lacking in its own incredible cruises you can enjoy without a passport.

Fly the Skies with Next Vacay and Cruise the Seas Without a Passport

Cruises to the Caribbean, Bahamas, Alaska, Canada, New England, Mexico, Bermuda, and Hawai‘i all fit these criteria. While it’s not definite, it’s been seen that on some cruises, passengers that are positive for COVID have had to debark the ship. Of course, all of these options suppose that you have the time to get a new passport before your cruise. As you can see below, it can take several weeks before you can expect yours to arrive after ordering. If you’re not a U.S. citizen, you will need a passport to take any cruise, regardless of the destination. A closed-loop cruise is a cruise that begins and ends in the same U.S. port.

The Caribbean

An Alaskan cruise even lures those who wouldn’t necessarily consider a cruise. These vacations are more about the destination than the cruise ship. Cruises to Alaska appeal to nature lovers, photographers, and explorers.

Closed-Loop Cruises: The One Passport-Required Exception

As a part of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, you do not need a passport to cruise into Canada. You likely know that you are able to travel to any of the 50 states without a passport, but a lot of people don't consider taking a cruise to one – especially one as chilly as Alaska. Traveling to the United States' most northern state via cruise comes with some complications compared to flying there, as you must make sure to select the correct route when traveling without a valid passport. For many, the seasonal cruise destination of Alaska is high on their bucket lists.

This means you can visit the British territory without the worry of having a valid passport. Three-day cruises aboard Carnival Conquest depart Miami for the Bahamas, but return back to Miami. This means U.S. passengers don't need a passport for this closed-loop sailing. If your cruise itinerary does not necessitate a passport, you must show other valid documentation.

cruise without passport

The amicable relationship between Canada and the U.S. means you can cross Canada-U.S. Borders via sea or land (not air) without a passport, if you have other valid identification, such as a NEXUS card or FAST card. Whether you want to cruise along Mexico’s Caribbean side or the Pacific coast, you can do so without a passport, so long as your cruise starts and ends in the same port city in the United States. On these closed-loop itineraries, you only need to present a government ID and birth certificate (or a passport card).

Closed-loop cruises travel to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda but start and end at the same U.S. homeport. However, there are some caveats you'll need to know about ID requirements. That is cheaper than a passport book, can get you on the ship but are valid for entering the USA by land and sea only. Our suggestion is to always sail with a passport that’s valid for at least six months after your cruise.

While some stops may require passports, many don’t, expanding your horizon beyond the typical. However, these lines do not allow passengers to disembark in foreign ports, which may be an inconvenience if you’ll be exploring different areas of the country while on your trip. Norwegian Cruise Lines requires a passport for all sailings, but allows passengers to disembark in foreign ports with a valid visa.

Popular cruise itineraries without a passport

Traveling by plane or ship to these island paradise destinations is considered a domestic trip. The same thing could happen if you accidentally don’t make it back to your ship in time for departure, following a day out at one of the itinerary’s destinations. While normally, you could meet back up with the ship on the next island over, if you had a passport, again, if you don’t, you can’t. This is also the one example of where you can take a cruise without a passport and without adhering to the closed-loop itinerary rule. You can technically take a cruise to Canada and not return to the same U.S. port, just as long as you don’t try to fly anywhere.

Perfect for shorter three-night escapades or week-long retreats, the Bahamas serves up a platter of activities. No-passport cruises are particularly beneficial for domestic travelers keen on exploring the U.S.’s scenic beauty, from the majestic glaciers of Alaska to the vibrant cultures of the Caribbean. They’re also a godsend for family travel — because we all know getting passports for the whole gang can be as fun as a sunburn.

However, despite this, you don’t actually need a passport to go on every cruise. No, that doesn’t mean you’ll be stuck on New England small ship sailings or taking a river cruise down the Mississippi. You can take a wonderfully warm, tropical Caribbean cruise away from the States without the hassle of acquiring or renewing a passport.

The majority of closed-loop cruises to Alaska originate and return to Seattle. However, American Cruise Lines’ Southeast Alaska cruise boards in Juneau and returns to the same port after visiting Glacier Bay and several Alaskan towns. The group of states still honor the part they played in America's birth and a trip up north will be somewhat heavy in influence from early American history. The Big Island‘s landscape is very diverse with volcanoes, mountainous terrain, beaches, rainforests, and everything in between. One of our favorite excursions was a helicopter ride over the island.

If you decide to cruise to the beautiful islands of Hawaii, be sure to make it a learning experience and honor the culture there. Popular ports of call include Boston, MA; Bar Harbor, ME; Portland, ME; Halifax, Nova Scotia; and St. John, New Brunswick. A Bermuda cruise might be the perfect choice for those living in the Northeastern United States as there will be no flying involved.

The terminal buildings are equipped with modern facilities, such as duty-free shops, elevators, souvenir shops, a bar restaurant, an exchange office, public phones, restrooms, and ATMs. There is a taxi rank in front of each terminal, as well as a shuttle bus station and parking for tour buses. The Aerobus service runs every 5-10 minutes from both terminals directly to Plaça de Catalunya which is a short distance away from the port. One option for travelling to and from the airport to the docks is to catch a taxi. One for taking you from the airport and the other for alighting at the cruise terminal or vice versa. For the exact taxi rates and supplements we recommend you visit the Metropolitan Institute For Barcelona Taxis web site that list the up to date fares for Barcelona Taxis.

Smaller cruise ships may dock adjacent to the World Trade Center, which is an easier walk to Las Ramblas. For those that have been in the major touristic areas and visited the top highlights of Barcelona, there are many other places that are very seldom offered on cruise ship excursions. The neighborhood known as El Born has become a great place to visit on a leisurely walk.
